~What To Do?~

I was just getting used to it here at blogger.

I was learning to manipulate my page.

I liked that I could type my post in HTML rather than use a restrictive editor.

I had found a decent proportion of the ex-JSers.

I also liked the fact that there are so many other journals here besides the ex-JSers.

Then the 'new' JS appears.

It looks like the bastard son of MySpace and FaceBook (while one of them was having a fling with WordPress).

I opened an account there, but I'm not sure whether I'll be using it much yet.

  2. Not that my actions matter much but I am staying here on blogspot. I really don't feel the need to get back on a site entitled "Journalspace" just because the name is familiar. Besides, it seems that I have been able to find everyone that I liked off the site (and unfortunately, some that I don't) so why switch journals again?

Of course you are, you're a little dismembered LEGO head! ;-)

    Oh, consider yourself 'followed'.

I'm thinking along the same lines as you TP.

Just because it's called 'JournalSpace' doesn't make it the same thing that it was before.

If anything, Blogger feels more like the old JS then the new JS does.

I just published the same post over in the 'new JS, YouTube embedding doesn't work over there. Not a good start :-/

  6. hey groover.... how do you find new blogs on here?? it's not liek there's a 'recently posted' or a 'comments' section... i liked finding people like general wolf randomly and can't work out how to do it here

  7. Dickingtonbar II:

I found everyone by seeing who'd 'followed' other journals.

Take a look at my profile page, I've managed to find most of the ex-JSers, I think.

  8. Wait and see what happens the new JS looks too much like wordpress.

  9. Pastor Larry:

    It certainly does.

It appears to be more of a social networking site than a blogging site now.

  10. I'm with Tuesday. This interface is pretty easy. I found many from JS, and I enjoy the random read feature as well as blogs of note for reading new people. I feel like I'm on JS after it's all grow'd up. I'm actually pretty happy, why move again?

  11. Geeeeeez!I hope I don't loose all my old journalspace friend's that are on here. I was just getting use to this place and I don't want to switch again to chase those who may leave.

  12. I read it, and I hope you continue posting here. I went to the new JS, had an aaccount for 3 hours, then closed it. It sucks. This place is better. Even if everyone else goes back to the new JS, I'll stay here. Hugs.

  13. Breath-e:

I think that a 'grow'd up' JS is a very good description.

  14. Deep Blue:

I know, things were just settling down nicely here.

  15. Xanadu:

    I'll definitely be staying here.

Whether I'll post on the new JS too, I'm not so sure.

  16. I think I like it here better too, Andy; I'm taking a wait and see attitude with the new JS, but WP and I do NOT get along at all.

  17. Dickington Bar II,

If you look at the very top, on the right, you can click on "next blog" and find other blogs. (There from all over the world, I noticed. :) )

  18. Pretty much my own thoughts – there isn’t much to make it anything more special than any other small WordPress-based site. If Dylan had let the new owners inherit the old codebase, it might have been different.

And Dickington: as doanli says, you click on the ‘Next blog’ link. It sounds as if it’s going to take you through in alphabetical order or something, but in fact they’re picked at random. You just keep clicking until you find one you like, or you become bored senseless.

  19. I signed up at the new JS...not impressed...deleted my account in about 15 minutes. Also, they pissed my off (see my post today).

Dickington Bar II...you can also click on your interest words in your profile, and it will pull up blogs related to that word. When I find something over there I like, I then check out their followers or favorites in the sidebar. There are a ton of blogs over here at Blogsot. Good luck.

  20. I'm with all of you... I am not crazy about wordpress and the new place is too wordpressy at the moment... but it MAY change! Alot of people don't like the fact that there is no pm system here.... but you still have my forum for that.. ahem. *wink*

Dickbar, on your dashboard there are the tabs "buzz" for news and "blogs of note" that you can look into... whether they are really "of note" is another question.

I'll try the new, but keep mine here as well.

  21. P.S. Andy, like in Wordpress, there's a tab "html" in the post writting block for using html. I need that for adding pictures in wordpress because they somehow don't work otherwise. I haven't tried YouTube though but it should work!

  22. Agreeing with Ms Pillow. I've used Blogspot for quite a while, and am comfortable. All this loyalty to a website that is related mainly by name to the old site people liked amazes me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dicbar you can click on interests and tags and find other journals as well...

    ReplyDelete
  24. It doesn't matter that it has the name. It will never have the feel of the old place. Whoever purchased the domain wasted their money, in my opinion.

I like it here. I like the newness of it all. And I don't intend on leaving nor am I going to sign up over there.

  25. I'm hedging my bets. Still posting stuff here, but trying out the "new coke" version of JS to see where the community seems to congeal more.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm staying here, for what it's worth. If anyone wants to send a "PM" they can simply submit an email address, which is posted on your profile, left-hand column. I prefer Blogspot, especially the snippets from recently updated journals on the "dashboard". Why go back??

  27. I read it tooo, but I'm not anyone....just the little Sunny girl. :)

I also opened an account with blog on the new JS. I did'nt want anyone to steal my name I've had (SunnyLane) since Nov 2003!

Just have to wait and see how it goes.....meanwhile I love it here too!

    Hugs, Judy

  28. I have yet to decide. I think I'll stay put here though. I haven't made an account at the new JS yet. I might later today, and I might now. Hmm.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I went to check it out and they wouldn't give me my "BonnieBehave" handle. So I said screw it. If it gets better, I'll check it out, but I'm happy here. I hated WP and it seemed just like it. Bleck.

  30. They also post your full name if you are dumb enough to actually put your full name in the entitled slot (which they tell you is mandatory). I deleted my journal there because I couldn't get my name off of my first post (that I never even posted) and I DO NOT want people knowing my name. That's just another little quirk people might want to know about.

  31. Wow!!

Quite a comment-fest here while I was working!

I have to say that I've grown to like Blogger over the last couple of weeks.

It just seems more 'grown up' than old JS ever did, and certainly more so than the new version.

I'll keep my account there open regardless, but I can't see me ever moving back full-time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I simply couldn't be arsed setting up something on another site. It took me a couple of attempts at this one.
    JS is now a zombie.

  33. Consider yourself read here. And I'm staying here, for what it's worth.

  34. I was (and still am but not as much) excited when I saw JS. I have my likeisaid name back that I really missed but...I also like it here. If they had a home page like JS did I wouldn't even think of leaving. I can change my layout here but the new JS looks way too much like wordpress which I didn't like at all.
    Oh well, time will tell.

  35. thanks everyone for answering my question... i shall go forth and discover!

  36. "bastard son of MySpace and FaceBook (while one of them was having a fling with WordPress)"--- That's it exactly.

  37. The new JS has not impressed me in the least. I think it is going to be a disappointment, and I will not go back.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am double posting here and JS, but most of my reading seems to be here. I snagged my old username at JS, and didn't have to add a number to it ;-) but I have my doubts about using it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm staying here, but I'll keep an eye on the new JS too. All I'm gonna do is just copy what I do here and paste it there.
